Objective:

I seek gallery representation for one of four bodies of physical work:

Max Paul Taylor

Self-taught Brut/Naïve Ambitious/Curious Dedicated/Resourceful

The piece up top is the first Painting I ever made. I’m serious. Two years ago I could barely draw stick figures.

Rewind three more and I was a career Investment Banker thoughtfully parched of all creativity. Art, I believed, was a waste of time. How wrong I was. Art is everything.

I am unleashed. Across mediums and styles I explore. I seek a partner for career development of the following areas of my exploration.

Liquid Light Photography
Elegant/Sexy/Dark/Mysterious

No one alive uses the techniques I do. It’s an amalgamation of alternative darkroom processes. A secret knowledge learned from forgotten books. Refined to my own approach. Large hand-made photographic prints on canvas.

My photography has been featured Vogue to National Geographic. It is my most proficient medium combined with a unique process yielding incomparable results. I would challenge all to replicate.

Primitive
Earthy/Raw/Natural

Smashed rocks and Rabbit Glue.

Mortar and Pestle.

Cochineal Bugs mixed with Lemon juice, Marigold Flowers, Charcoal, Dirt, Pure Indigo,
Rocks of various colors and the flora of Brooklyn.

Painted Dreams
Aggressive/Ambitious/Surreal

Why I chose to learn.

In a dream I walked the gallery halls of every painting I have never made.

Flickers from the subconcious domain. They will all be made.

I love biting off more than I can chew. I elevate with every attempt, pursuing creation far beyond my technical skill level.

I am two years in with decades to go.

Monster Laboratory
Fun/Playful

A Sharpie with Commitment Issues and An Ostrich with A Dream.

A lowbrow visual outlet pursued between attempts at my more ambitious works.

Every piece has a poem. Every piece is an area of technical study where I let loose on pressure, and play

You know what’s fun about the above three for me? Technically they are photographs…. of sketches lifted from newsprint, printed through light and chemistry in my darkroom and imbued with color using dirt, glue, oil, and anything else that seemed fun to include. An impermanent design made archival through an obscurely complex process that brings me right back to where I started.

The Future

Is big and bright. I head next to Germany for an artist residency at the Berlin Art Institute.

Cheers,

Max

ARTIST STATEMENT

I am self taught through constant experimentation

I am a writer and a poet, and I make visual art

I write dark comedy as essays

My poetry is more fun than secrets

My Art is surrealist in drawing, painting, and printmaking

I used to work in corporate finance

But a whale shark changed my life

Now I explore, in body and mind

Across mediums and ideas

The moment I decided to leave finance. That whaleshark is the size of a bus. A true leviathan.
